Building Community in Unexpected Places

Eric Farley is a member of Community of Grace Church in Buffalo, NY. Eric and has been a correction officer with New York State for nine years. Through his job, Eric discovered that there are many Christian inmates within the prison system, but they lack in a foundational, functioning knowledge of the gospel.

With a burden as to how to reach more prisoners with the good news of Jesus, God led Eric to begin the ministry “Visiting Our Brothers.” Using the visiting system that is already in place with the prison, men in the church visit the Christian inmates to pray with them, encourage them, and read through the Bible with them. Through love and relationships, their desire is that Christian inmates would return to their cell block freshly in love with Christ, in love with the Church of Christ, and excited for what God is still doing. They want the prisoners to live radical and vibrant lives knowing that the church loves them and that Christ loves them so they can reach their fellow inmates with the gospel in a very real and relatable way.
