Launching Well & Lasting Long
When you plant with Sovereign Grace Churches, you have three levels of care and equipping made available to you as you prepare to launch a new church. The planter connects to a local church where they receive personal care for the planter and his family and gain valuable experience in pastoral ministry. Secondly, the planter is part of a region of churches where he benefits from the experience and encouragement of other ordained pastors who have a vested interest in the success of the plant, along with the focused leadership of a Regional Leader, Regional Church Planting Committee, and a Church Planting Coach. Then finally, the planter receives training on a national level by participating in the Sovereign Grace Church Planter Cohort.
The Church Planter Cohort is a twelve-month training experience that helps planters develop the knowledge, skills, and relationships necessary to plant a healthy, fruitful ministry for the long haul by placing them in a short-term training experience with a small group of other church planters. It’s a finishing school for getting a church planted after local, regional, and national assessment has taken place. It focuses on the planter, his family, and the skills needed to get things started with a view towards long-term sustainability. Throughout the year-long program the church planters come together for four long weekends of specialized training, webinar workshops in between, and a marriage retreat with their wives.
There is much care and support to follow throughout the planter’s partnership with Sovereign Grace Churches, and the cohort serves a significant role in getting them used to receiving it in very practical and tangible ways.
This past weekend we kicked off the training year for the 2018 Church Planter Cohort. Please join us in praying for the following men as they go through the training together in preparation for leading their families to advance the gospel, make disciples, and plant churches in the following cities within the next 12-18 months.
- Joel & Ashley Shorey :: Newark, Delaware
- Mike & Enza Lilley :: Salem, Massachusetts
- Joshua & Michelle Earl :: Wilmington, North Carolina
- Joel & Samora Bain :: Kingston, Jamaica
- Shawn & Charice Powers :: Des Moines, Iowa
By the grace of God, we hope that the Church Planter Cohort helps each of these church planters launch well and last long for the glory of God!
