Prepare for Holy Week with Dr. Sproul

Would you like to spend the weeks leading up to Holy Week with Dr. Sproul?

A book recommendation from our Executive Director gives us the opportunity to do that.

Since our beginnings as a family of churches, we’ve sought to “keep the main thing the main thing” as we keep the gospel of first importance (1 Cor. 15). It’s one of our distinctives as a family of churches and one of our seven shared theological values. We never want these truths to feel hurried, stale, or rote.

The recent book Holy Week: The Week That Changed the World, written by Dr. R.C. Sproul, helps us spend unhurried time reflecting on the gospel. For many years Dr. Sproul was a treasured voice in our family of churches on the cross of Christ, and this new collection of his work allows us to benefit from his many years of faithful ministry.

Our Executive Director, Mark Prater, shares why he loves and recommends the book, saying it contains “well-written, rich theological truths, and very clear.” He adds, “I don’t want them to become familiar to me. I don’t want them to become familiar to our pastors and to the members of our churches and to our family of churches throughout the world. May those truths continue to deepen our affections for Jesus, and may they fuel our desire to advance the gospel.”

Mark shares that his prayer for our family of churches is that as we reflect on these truths we’d not only be blessed ourselves, but that we might be stirred to mission:

“May we treasure Jesus more, may we love him more, and may we be more committed to reaching out and inviting people to Good Friday services, to Resurrection Sunday services, to share the gospel with them. And may the Lord Jesus Christ reach more and more people with this good news that we know and that we love.”
