O God, our times are in your hands, our lives are in your hands. You knitted us together in our mother’s womb. You planned all our days before there was one. You made us to live before you—to fear you, to walk in your ways, to love you, and to serve you with all our heart and with all our soul. You made us to worship you—to find the meaning of our lives in seeing you and savoring you. 

We worship you for your greatness. The earth and its fullness belong to you—the moon and the stars you set in place; the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them have been brought forth by your command. The heavens and the earth make known to us your greatness and your glory.

We praise you for your great power displayed in the mountain peaks and the rushing waves. We praise you for your great wisdom displayed in the ordering of nature and the intricacies of our minds and bodies. We praise you for your great beauty, not just making a world that is inhabitable but making it beautiful, from the setting sun to every grain of sand. We praise you for your great goodness, for making the sun rise on the evil and good and sending rain on the just and unjust. Everywhere we turn our eyes we see evidence of your goodness. Great are the works of the Lord, we study them with delight. 

Give us eyes to see and savor your greatness all around us—in the greatness of the ocean, the refreshment of a well-written book, the beauty of a starlit night, and the deliciousness of watermelon. 

We worship you for your grace. You have made known your power, wisdom, beauty, and goodness in creation, but you have made known your grace in salvation. Tracing through the pages of Scripture is your greatness, our sinfulness, and your great salvation through our Savior Jesus Christ. We praise you that Christ suffered once for sins, paying once-for-all the penalty before God for our many sins. We praise you that Christ suffered the righteous for the unrighteous, paying the penalty for our many sins as the perfect sacrifice. We praised you that Christ suffered to bring us to God, reconciling us to God and restoring us to fellowship with God (1 Pet. 3:18). How great is our salvation! How wonderful! How marvelous!

We see and savor your greatness, but how much more should we savor your glorious grace! 

May the great treasure of the gospel be the treasure of our lives: access to God through Christ in the power of the Spirit. Draw near to us as we draw near to you. Let us savor your words with delight. Let us walk in step with the gospel. Let us be more and more dependent upon the power of the Spirit. 

Indeed, as the Psalmist prayed, “Let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, our rock and our redeemer.”
