Thanking God and Praying FOR Biblical Womanhood
O God, we bow ourselves before you. You are our Lord. You are our King. You are our Father—the Maker of every person and the Father of the household of God.
We praise you that we have become the children of God—brothers and sisters of our Lord Jesus Christ! And we praise that we have been joined together with all the men and women, brothers and sisters, of Sovereign Grace.
As many celebrate Mother’s Day this month, we pray for the women, young and old, single and married, in our churches. We thank you for them! And we pray for them to embrace the glorious calling of biblical womanhood. In the midst of much confusion on what it means to be made male and female, we pray that our churches would pursue God’s good design with clarity and conviction.
We pray for them to be gripped by the grace of God. The temptation to exchange the freedom of the gospel for another yoke abound for women—whether it is a desire for physical beauty, worldly success, well-to-do children, well-put-together homes, or something else. May the joy of Sovereign Grace women always be derived from the grace of God, who gave us righteousness, sanctification, and redemption in Christ.
We pray for them to be marked by godliness. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is worthy to be praised. Having been set apart for God, let their lives be marked by the pursuit and the fruit of godliness. Unite their hearts to fear your name. Give them ears to hear. Open their eyes to see. Teach them wisdom and use their words to build up their family, community, and church.
We pray for them to be strong in faith. Those who trust in the Lord will not be moved and women who trust in the Lord laugh at the days to come. Guard them from the lies of comparison, the restlessness of discontent, the uneasiness of fear, and the cravings of envy. Let them be self-controlled. Let them be strong in the strength of your might, taking up the shield of faith against all temptations.
We pray for them to be devoted to love and good works. Whether as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, or church member, let them use their gifts to build up the household of God. May husbands be supplied through their help. May children be nurtured through their care. May brothers and sisters be encouraged through their words and support. May younger women learn through their example and instruction. May churches be built through their sacrifice, compassion, nurture, and care.
Father, we pray that you would equip the women of Sovereign Grace with everything good, working in them what is pleasing in your sight, through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
